$2.75 Million Settlement: Deadly Automobile Crash
A young wife, and mother of small children was killed in a tragic car crash on a rural road near the border of Washington and Bay Counties. Through the use of accident reconstruction engineer experts, and “black box” data obtained from one of the vehicles, our trial attorneys were able to establish that the at-fault driver of a corporate vehicle crossed the center line, causing the crash and killing Jenny Smith. A significant portion of the settlement in this case went into a structured settlement fund which will be preserved for the young children left behind.

Manuel & Thompson has been at the forefront of North Florida’s litigation in the area of nursing home related cases. $2.25 Million Settlement: Defective Tire/ Products Liability
The attorneys at Manuel & Thompson were instrumental in the investigation and development of the case against a major tire manufacturer for a defective tire which blew out on I-75 in central Florida. The blow-out caused a catastrophic crash which claimed the life of a wife and mother of three children. Obtaining justice for the surviving family was a top priority for our firm. Developing the case with the assistance of multiple experts, a fair and reasonable settlement was achieved. Although no amount of money can return what a family has lost, the financial burden of that loss is mitigated as the family moves forward with their lives.
$920,000 Jury Verdict: Motorcycle crash
A Bay County, Panama City jury recently awarded $920,000 in damages to a man who was lawfully riding his motorcycle in Panama City, Florida in good conditions and in daylight hours when he was hit by another driver. Our client suffered a fractured pelvic bone and underwent surgery on both wrists. The defendant, who hit our client, testified he had the right of way and that the Plaintiff was actually at fault. At trial, our team of experienced trial attorneys was able to show through the use of aerial imagery and expert accident reconstruction testimony that the defendant driver caused the crash. In addition, our team utilized expert testimony from a traffic engineer regarding local traffic signals which proved our client had the right of way and was not at fault. The jury agreed.
$1.2 Million Settlement: Motorcycle v. Semi-Truck
Our client suffered significant and multiple fractures when his motorcycle was struck by a tractor trailer truck which violated the right of way. Because our team of experienced trial attorneys has significant experience handling trucking cases, our investigative team was able to discover various facts about the truck maintenance that assisted in showing that the crash was caused solely by the defendant. This was another example of Manuel & Thompson having the resources and experience to investigate a case in a timely fashion- which could make all the difference in the development of a case.
$400,000 Settlement: Jet-Ski Accident involving Alcohol
When our client, Ms. Smith, went to the beach a few summers ago, she had no idea that her casual afternoon would be the worst day of her life. While swimming with family and friends, the 35 year old nurse was struck by a jet-ski driven by a young woman. An investigation revealed that the woman on the jet-ski was intoxicated. Ms. Smith suffered a severe shoulder injury which required a surgery and a long recovery. After being told by other attorneys that she didn’t have a case, the attorneys at Manuel & Thompson, took over the case and achieved a fair result.
$1.2 Settlement: House Fire Leaves Child Disfigured
A Panama City rental home was recently engulfed in flames when the occupants were trying desperately to escape. Although the family made it out of the home, one of the occupants was a young child, only 10 years old at the time, and she’d suffered severe 3rd degree burns to 35% of her body. Despite limited insurance coverage, Manuel & Thompson attorneys were able to prove that the landlord had negligently maintained the home for years despite knowledge of wiring issues. In addition, our investigation revealed that the wiring and electrical contractor might have been negligent in the installation of the electrical system of the home.
$350,000 Settlement: Premises Liability/Insurance Coverage
While on the job, a woman sustained a scalping injury while working on a piece of machinery that was missing its protective guard. Her injuries were severe and required multiple surgeries and skin grafting procedures. The insurance company for our client’s employer argued that her injuries were not covered by its liability insurance policy. However, after our experienced insurance attorneys examined the language of the insurance policy in question, we discovered that in fact, our client fit within an exception to the exclusion cited by the insurance company. The experience of our attorneys made the difference in this case.
$350,000 Settlement: Premises Liability/Worker’s Compensation Immunity
While on the job at a saw mill, our client had his foot crushed when the machine on which he was cleaning started due to a mechanical malfunction of which his employer had failed to repair and of which the employer had previous knowledge. This injury resulted in multiple surgeries and several hospitalizations. Even so, our client unfortunately lost much of the function of his foot, and it was left terribly misshapen and painful. Our attorneys were successful in establishing that the conduct of the employer was egregious enough to prevent the employer from asserting its worker’s compensation immunity from liability.
